Rifugio Scarteboden

I had a great time!!! I ate an appetizer of cold cuts and cheeses, the typical pasta alla Macugnagase and polenta and cheeses... everything was excellent!!!! Fast service and the waitress was very kind... I recommend it!!! P.S. to get there from Pecetto it takes about 20 minutes on foot on a nice cool path with woods on the sides..... Beautiful view of Monte Rosà. Mary

We stayed one night and had a wonderful time, from dinner to breakfast.

Excellent lunch, equally excellent service and company. What more do you want? A spectacular view of Monte Rosa! The refuge has a beautiful sun-baked open area where you can have lunch with their dishes and an exceptional view of Monte Rosa. Easily reachable from the Monte Moro pass cable car square and in 15/20 minutes you are at the refuge.

I was sad to leave. The food was excellent and plentiful, and the price was great. The owners were very kind and helpful. Just above Macugnaga (about a half-hour walk), it's an enchanting place overlooking the town with breathtaking views of Monte Rosa. I highly recommend it to everyone.

Typical, homemade dishes with an incredible view of Macugnaga and Monte Rosa. Fair prices and portions for very good food, though it's a shame there's not a huge selection. Reservations are recommended on summer weekends, as seating is limited.

After about 40 years, I returned to the Scarteboden refuge and I have to compliment the new managers on how they've managed to renovate the place, and I also compliment them on the lunch, which was very good. I found the managers very courteous. They also let me tour the rooms, which I must say have been very well renovated. Highly recommended. 😉

If you are in Macugnaga in the summer but also on winter weekends, the Scateboden Refuge is definitely a must-see! Recently reopened after a total renovation, it offers an oasis of tranquility just a few minutes' walk from Macugnaga (from 15 to 30 depending on the different possibilities and accessible to children - without strollers - and healthy seniors). The view of Monte Rosa, the delicious food and the extreme kindness of the managers are definitely worth a visit and if you want to stay you will also have the opportunity to stay in spacious and equipped rooms. Absolutely honest and average prices. I recommend booking even during the week. Highly recommended place!

After a long period of confinement at home, the best thing you can do is get some fresh air. So I decided to try the new Scarteboden refuge. The place was recently completely renovated, and the result is sensational! You feel right at home. Outside, there are tables and chairs for al fresco dining, overlooking Monte Rosa. Going up the stairs, you reach the entrance and the indoor dining room, and another flight of stairs takes you to the rooms. Everything is new and spotless, and you can tell the owners take special care of the refuge and its surroundings. The lunch was excellent, thanks in part to the company and the conversation the owners shared with us and the other guests! I absolutely recommend trying it!

A beautiful place, reached by a walk through the pine forest. The refuge is renovated and very charming, with hospitable staff. The traditional cuisine is very good. I will definitely return in the future.
